XWFE vs. XWF: Why the Letter E Matters
GE refrigerator filters labeled XWF and XWFE can look nearly identical, but many newer refrigerators expect the electronic identification built into the XWFE format.
Fit rule: The full appliance model and printed replacement part number take priority over appearance alone.
Start with the refrigerator label
Find the full refrigerator model number inside the fresh-food compartment. Do not rely only on a marketplace compatibility list.
Read the cartridge
If the installed filter says XWFE, replace it with a product explicitly designed for XWFE recognition. A plain XWF-shaped cartridge may physically fit while the refrigerator rejects it.
Confirm the chip statement
On compatible products, look for a clear statement that a chip is included and then verify your exact refrigerator model on the Amazon detail page.
